Bequest

Making a will is the cornerstone of estate planning. Without a will outlining your wishes, the courts have the right to decide how your estate will be divided.

A bequest through your will is the most common and the easiest way to arrange a gift. You may choose to provide for a specific sum or a percentage of your estate to go to the Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation upon your death.

Your preference may be to make a residual bequest once all other beneficiaries have been taken care of, leaving the balance of your estate to the Foundation.

Three examples of appropriate wording to be discussed with your legal advisor in planning your will are:

  1. To deliver, pay or transfer the sum of ______ dollars to the Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation.
  2. To deliver, pay or transfer the residue of my estate to the Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation.
  3. To deliver, pay or transfer _______ percent of my estate to the Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation.

There are many wonderful benefits to giving a planned gift:

  • You gain the satisfaction in knowing that through your gift to the OJCF, you are ensuring that there will always be sufficient financial support for the continued development of a strong and vibrant Jewish Ottawa for your children and future generations.
  • You experience comfort knowing that your estate will receive significant tax credits that can be passed on to your heirs.
